Escaping the Giant Wave is about a boy named Kyle and his financial loving sister, BeeBee. It is the last day of school and they are writing goals to accomplish over the summer. Kyle is happy because he won't be seeing a bully named Daren over the whole summer. Soon their father comes home with the news that he is the Salesperson of the Year and they get to go on a 5-day vacation to Fisher Village, Oregon. Kyle soon finds out Daren will be going to Oregon as well. One night in Oregon, at an old hotel, an earthquake hits when Kyle is babysitting his little sister while his parents are on a cruise. They soon smell something and open the door to find smoke filling the hallway. They hurry out into the hall with wet towels over their faces. Soon they find the unconscious figure of Daren on the floor. They drag him down the stairs till the bottom floor where Daren awakes. The first floor of the hotel is engulfed in flames. They run to a little side door in the fire filled lobby. They start climbing a hill because they hear a tsunami warning signal. They meet an elderly couple on the way up the hill. This book is very good but in my opinion it is a little short. I think it is a good book for any age because there is no violence. LAM (5)
