Brief Description: A 12 year-old boy named Jeremy Fink gets a mysterious package in the mail that contains a beautiful wood box. The words, "The Meaning of Life", and "For Jeremy Fink on his thirteenth birthday", are engraved on the box. The package also has a note from an old friend who was to keep possession of the box since Jeremy's father did not live to give it to his son. The friend says that he had hidden the keys in a safe place, but in fact... a little too safe. He had forgotten where he put them. Jeremy and his best friend Lizzie quickly come up with a few plans on how to find the keys to the box. When one of their ideas gets them in trouble, they end up having to do charity work for a rich man named Oswald. They only have a small amount of time until Jeremy turns thirteen. Will they be able to open this box in time? If not, will they be able to find out what's inside without opening it? Read Jeremy fink and the Meaning of Life to find out.
Why I Liked or Didn't Like it: I liked this book because I got right into it every time I picked it up, and the author made it fun. For example, when Jeremy explained why his mother would not get rid of their old and torn couch because he had named it mongo. I really enjoyed it. HGD (4)
