Description: The Great Wall of Lucy Wu is a book about a girl whose grandmother's sister comes to visit. Lucy thinks she is going to have the best year ever because she gets a room to herself while her older sister moves off to college. She thinks this until she hears about the guest. It turns out Yi Po (Lucy's grandmother's sister), has to share a room with Lucy and when her parents find a Chinese school is opening that happens to be at the same time as her basket ball practice they immediately sign her up. There also happens to be a picking of the captain for the student versus teacher basket ball game. Lucy signs up for captain and is put up against a very mean girl named Sloane. Sloane does all she can to get Lucy to lose the competition but instead Lucy wins and is named captain of the team. The time of the basket ball practice is moved earlier so that Lucy is able to attend practice and the Chinese school. Lucy starts to get along with Yi Po and Talent Chang who started the Chinese School where Lucy's parents make her go.
What I Thought of the Book: I thought the book, The Great Wall of Lucy Wu was very good. I thought it was fast read and difficult to put down. I thought it was funny how Yi Po and all of her friends from chess came out at the last minute and put cans in Lucy's bucket to vote for her for basket ball team captain. Overall I thought the book was great and intriguing. MGPS (3)
